The holidays can be filled with fun family gatherings, crazy shopping trips, and lots of food (emphasis on the “lots”). While all of these things are great and enjoyable, the holiday season can be extremely stressful for many reasons. Too many things to do along with high expectations. Healthy eating can enable healthy lifestyles in and outside of the office!  Another idea is to schedule a wellness event in the office with a chair massage!

Though you could have stayed on track from January to October, the months with Thanksgiving and Christmas can easily undo all of your progress. Though unfair and frustrating, it is possible and all too easy to lose everything that you had worked so hard to gain.

While there are many ways to get off track, here are five big dangers that could lead to a defeated shopping trip to buy a bigger pair of pants:

  1. Getting off a schedule. The holidays can be a busy time that makes you feel that everything is a greater priority than your health. This is not true. You can still work out, eat right, and spend time in the kitchen cooking something nutritious (instead of going on a fast trip to Taco Bell). Schedule time to cook and to exercise- if you just “wing it” at the last minute, you most likely won’t be able to make it to the gym.
  2. Indulging in a “treat.” Yes, it is great to treat yourself every once in a while with a dessert or a break from exercise, but you also have to keep in mind why you’re working hard and how hard you’ve worked to get where you are. Don’t lose it all by slacking off for too long.
  3. Trying to cheer yourself up. The seasonal affective disorder runs rampant during the final months of the year. Longer nights, shorter hours of sunlight, and colder weather can often leave people feeling sad and can sometimes lead to depression. Make sure that you get some sunlight for at least 30 minutes during the day, and don’t try to lift your mood by eating the entire box of cookies.
  4. Becoming bored. Don’t keep cooking the same recipes and doing the same workout routine all year long. It is perfectly natural to feel uninterested after a while when you’re doing the same thing over and over again. Instead, try mixing things up by looking up new healthy recipes and finding new ways of working out. If you typically run, try boxing. Tired of yoga? Try swimming.
  5. Make the commitment to “stay in shape” this holiday season by eating fruits and veggies before other foods at that next holiday party.

Staying healthy can be hard- there’s no denying that. The added stress of the holidays can often make the goals to stay in shape even harder. Give Corporate Massage Kneads a call and let us help you. Don’t let the stress get in the way of your health. Instead, focus on your wellness and make yourself a priority. You’re worth it.
