Five habits to relieve sore muscles with mobile chair massage
Offering mobile chair massages in Maryland to corporate clients allows for many opportunities to educate our corporate clients. Sore muscles can be experienced from overuse during athletic events, training, OR from sitting at a desk for many hours per day and week. I often advise my clients to listen to their bodies and take the time to stretch and recover before starting any activities again.
Here are some ideas to minimize discomfort.
Stretch, stretch, stretch. This seems so obvious and yet warrants repeating. Over time, muscles tend to shorten which causes aches and pains. Some common suggestions are to try a new yoga pose, roll out the muscles with a foam roller, or do common stretches from years past.
Hydrate. Again, simple enough and yet over-overlooked. Keeping water in the car and at your desk helps.
Ice the affected area. Cold therapy is often more soothing than you think. It reduces the swelling and pulling of the muscle(s). Be sure not to ever apply ice directly to the skin. Always be sure to have a barrier to enjoy the best results.
Epsom salt bath. Relax and rejuvenate in a warm Epsom salt bath for 15+ minutes. If you are feeling fancy, add some essential oils to enable a soothing and calm experience. This effort will reduce muscle pain and inflammation.
Enjoy a chair massage. A chair massage can allow for a quiet space to rest, renew, and manage any back and shoulder soreness. Many comments that mobile chair massage can also help with stress headaches and pains.

FAQ: Table vs. Chair Massage. What is the difference?
Since 2001, Corporate Massage Kneads is often asked questions with great interest from potential clients about the growing wellness trend of massage. Chair massage is becoming commonplace in the business world with employers ready to embrace wellness programs for their employees.
It is a challenge to find exact data and stats on the growing popularity of this wellness offering. Many massage companies are capitalizing on the interest of corporations by offering chair massage to their employees as it is shown to decrease stress, increase productivity, and relaxation among other benefits.
Thus, I thought for this blog, I would address frequently asked questions along with answers to help corporations find the ideal wellness company to partner with when offering corporate on-site chair massage to their employees.
Some often-asked questions include:
Question: What is chair massage?
Answer: Chair massage is an effective method to help alleviate muscle tension within a short amount of time.
Question: How long does it take?
Answer: Typically, 15 to 20 minutes per client.
Question: What is the best amount of time per client?
Answer: This is up to the company based on the budget and time allotted for their wellness program. Suggested times range from 15, 20 or (ideally) 30 minutes per client.
In an attempt to answer these, I also pose the following questions that companies should be asking of potential on-site chair massage providers.
Question: What is the average tenure of your therapists offering on-site chair massage?
Answer: With tenured massage therapists offering corporate chair massage, Massage Kneads would offer the perfect fit for your wellness “kneads.” All therapists hired by Massage Kneads have local state licensing, insurance, and an average of 5+ years with this specific type of (chair massage) work.
Question: What is the difference between table and chair massage when administering massage?
Answer: Chair massage therapists’ skills differ from table massage therapists with tempo (different strokes), limited area of concentration (to the head, neck, and shoulder areas) along time constraints to allow for maximum results for increased productivity and lower stress while working in a shortened period. All therapists working with Massage Kneads are experienced in this area as we have offered corporate chair massage to a variety of businesses and corporations for many years now.
Question: What documents are required for my special event?
Answer: Below, please find a list of documents that are prepared for each wellness event.
- Documentation (license, insurance, and a resume) for each assigned chair massage therapist upon request
- Liability Releases that are signed by each employee (which protects the Recreation Association
- A sign-up sheet used to schedule employee massages
- A corporate contract that details your event, pricing, your confirmed therapist/s, etc.
- W-9 tax form which is often requested by accounting
Question: Is the owner a licensed massage therapist? If so, for how long?
Answer: Janet Constantino it’s a licensed and tenured massage therapist and graduated from massage school in 2001. She has experience with organizing and scheduling corporate on-site chair massage wellness events.
Armed with these questions, a company can be assured of finding the best company to partner with to offer this (amazing and typically well-received) wellness program.

Seven types of headaches that chair massage can help soothe!
It’s the middle of the day, you’re exhausted, and the all-to-familiar pain of a splitting headache makes your efforts to concentrate even harder. Headaches can be debilitating. They are often the result of tension, stress, exhaustion, sinus issues, and more. Yet, there are some solutions that you can try to ease the pain in your head, one of which is chair massage.
First, let’s look at some common reasons why your head hurts in the first place:
- Tension headaches: these are often triggered by stress, anxiety, and poor posture. While they aren’t necessarily severe, they can often become chronic if left untreated.
- Cluster headaches: these one-sided headaches are short yet excruciating (they’re often called the “suicide headache”). They occur regularly over some time and typically have a respite period for months or years. Common triggers include alcohol, cigarettes, high altitudes, and certain dietary choices.
- Migraines: These (awful) stress headaches are severe forms of headaches that are often triggered by hormones, stress, and/or sleeping and eating patterns. These headaches are more common in women than men and can often leave a person unable to function properly because of the intense pain.
- Caffeine headaches: Can you function without your regular cup of coffee? The answer is probably “no” since you are more likely to experience a caffeine withdrawal headache if you cut off your regular supply of caffeine in the morning.
- Sinus headaches: These types of headaches are often over-diagnosed (88% of people claiming to have these types of headaches are often experiencing migraines instead). Symptoms often include sinus pressure, congestion, and watery eyes.
- Chronic daily headaches: Often the result of pain medication overuse, head injury, or (rarely) tumors or meningitis, these headaches occur a minimum of 15 days per month for at least 3 months.
- Weekend headaches: After a stressful week, a release at the start of the weekend can often trigger a splitting pain in one’s head. These can be caused by caffeine withdrawal, oversleeping, late nights, or a sudden relief of stress that can result in a painful pounding in one’s head.
Do any of those sound familiar? Well, don’t be discouraged because there are healthy ways to fight the pain and to make the day a little less difficult without the incessant discomfort.
Stress relief is often the best remedy for headaches. This could be achieved through over-the-counter medications (like aspirin or ibuprofen), sleep, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and/or massage. While some of the triggers should be treated specifically (such as sinus headaches and other forms caused by chemical imbalances/ medical irregularities), headaches can often be relieved through stress relief and relaxation. Massage is a wonderful way to ease the tension in your muscles and to achieve a state of relaxation despite your stressful day, week, or life. Unresolved muscle tension can be caused by stress and can often result in bodily discomfort (such as headaches).

Chair Massage: the ultimate body recovery tool!
Summer fun and exercise can leave your body tired! Try recovering with an on-site chair massage!
Are you trying to get into shape following a summer of “too much fun?” Heading into the cooler temps of Fall can be the ideal time to get outside to walk and exercise. Working out is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. While exercise is wonderful for your body, it can also leave your body feeling exhausted, sore, and taut. Mobile chair massage is a great way to ease stiff muscles and allow you to get in shape faster and prevent injuries.
Whether you work out every once in a while, or you push yourself physically every day in the gym, a massage can be extremely beneficial for your specific exercise regimen. Exercise is often promoted as extremely beneficial to a healthy lifestyle, but the recovery process after the workout is not as often highlighted. Professional teams and athletes almost always use massage to heal from the minor injuries associated with strenuous activity. When you exercise heavily, your muscles can often become hypertonic (chronically tight), less flexible, and less capable of relaxing. Muscle soreness is often linked to a lack of flexibility, leading to a higher likelihood of injury and muscle tear. Also, tight muscles can potentially cause pain since blood flow through tight muscles is much less effective than through relaxed muscles.
Massage maximizes blood and lymph circulation and general relaxation. This rebuilding phase of conditioning ultimately leads to the removal of waste products and better cell nutrition, improved elasticity of tissues, and faster healing of injuries. When receiving a chair massage, the therapist can often hone in on the muscle groups and tissues that are particularly troublesome, allowing you to gain a better range of certain muscles that are particularly tight. Regular massage can help you reach optimal performance by monitoring developing problems, addressing past injuries, and preventing the occurrence of new ones.
Pushing your limits in the gym is great for your body (within reason), but taking care of it afterward is also necessary. Especially if you’re training for some major athletic venture, massage can shorten the recovery time between workouts and prepare your muscles for the next day of strenuous exercise. When you exercise, lactic acid can build up in your muscles and can often cause cramps and muscular pain. Massage enhances the supply of nutrients and oxygen through increased blood flow and eliminates the build-up of lactic acid, thereby improving overall power and performance.
Not only can massage be physiologically beneficial for the professional athlete or occasional runner, but it can also benefit the mental capacity of any type of active individual. When your muscles become sore after exercising, you can be a lot less motivated to work out and get going again. After relaxing and easing the tension in your body, you will feel better and be more mentally prepared to get up and move sooner. Also, after a massage, you will be performing better and might therefore be more inspired to keep aiming for improvement and success. Working out is physical, but it is also largely mental. So, make sure that you take care of your body so that you can be mentally prepared to be active and succeed in your workouts.
Whether you are a super-athlete, a busy worker with a few minutes of exercise to spare, or a person who runs once a year, massage can benefit you in your specific exercise routine. Be physically and mentally prepared for the next time you put on your workout gear, and make sure that you try a chair massage that will leave your muscles feeling relaxed and ready to go in your next workout.

Hard work, rest & mobile chair massage!
September 9th marks the end of an exciting tournament at the US OPEN! With the history and level of play from the professionals, it is exciting to get an inside look at the journey and focus needed to have the honor of holding that very special trophy as the winner of the final match. These athletes train for many years and have all the resources to enhance their performance by taking care of their health and wellness. My hope when offering chair massage as a sought-after wellness program, we too can enhance the employee’s health and wellness at work. Mobile chair massage offers many benefits in a short amount of time! Many HR executives have FAQs about our programs. Check out some information here!
Watching more experienced players of the old days, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, makes me think of the amazing commitment year-round, day in and day out on and off the courts. I can only imagine the balance with proper nutrition, strength, hours of tennis practice, along with regular stretching and rest. Each player must identify the priority of what is “kneaded” to bring their best game to the large tennis tournaments.
This got me thinking, are many office workers feeling the same with the constant stress and wear and tear from sitting six to ten hours per day while managing the daily demands of their employer? Not many employees can take six months off to enjoy the same luxury as these professional athletes. However, large and small employers alike can bring wellness to the office with minimal cost and maximum benefits!
I am hopeful that some companies will consider mobile chair massage as one possible option to offer renewal, pain relief, and recovery to their employees.
Chair massage therapists can focus on the tight muscles associated with overuse. The traps, rhomboids, and neck muscles are the first areas to be worked on which allow for stress relief and a great range of movement. Typically mobile massage sessions are either 15 or 30 minutes in length and are of great benefit to those sore and aching muscles.
Amy, a Property Mgr, sent in last week and brought the message home.
“Michelle was great last week! We received a lot of positive feedback. Thank you so much for all your help and we will keep you guys in mind for future events!”
