Wellness and chair massage remain
Exciting news! Updated reports and statistics verify that alternative medicines are of growing interest to Americans. This trend is continuing to grow both in and outside of the office. This is hopeful on many fronts which shows the interest and commitment on behalf of major employers and individual employees alike in improving wellness initiatives such as yoga, chair massage, and walking clubs.
In a news article from the NY Times, it was found that “The National Center for Health Statistics, which maintains a continuing health survey of Americans, concludes that in 2012, 55.2 million adults and 4.1 million children had at least one expenditure for some kind of complementary health care.” It goes on to update that “Almost half the money — $14.7 billion — was spent visiting practitioners like acupuncturists, homeopaths, naturopaths, chelation therapists, mind-body experts, energy healing specialists, hypnotists, massage therapists, and traditional healers.
Natural product supplements (excluding vitamin and mineral diet supplements) cost $12.8 billion, and $2.7 billion was paid for self-care, including expenses for books and educational materials on diet-based therapies, guided imagery, meditation, tai chi, movement therapies, biofeedback, and other treatments.”
What other programs could be introduced within your office? Many employers have inquired about nutritional seminars, on-site corporate chair massage, chair yoga (which promotes movement and stretching at a desk), and on-site chair massage while employees are working at their desks to name a few. All these programs and more are available and easy to coordinate to offer a wellness program that “works” at your corporate office. Exercise is ALWAYS in fashion!

Just say “NO!” to stress, “YES” to chair massage
Feeling stressed out? Want to make a change in the New Year? Why “knot” consider scheduling a chair massage this quarter? Schedule YOUR corporate chair massage event for a little reprieve and stress-relief before ALL the other companies book our services!
Corporate Massage Kneads‘ therapists who offer chair massage in Maryland are experienced, properly trained, state-certified and insured, taking all the worry away from scheduling your on-site corporate chair massage event.
According to a recent article by Integrative Healthcare, “Nearly every person entering the field of massage therapy is fueled by a passion to help people better realize their capacity for wellness. As the connection between stress and declining wellness is repeatedly proven by the scientific community, massage’s ability to ease stress is becoming increasingly important. (Chair massage) therapists motivated to help steer people toward good health can realize this goal by bringing bodywork to one of the most prevalent locations breeding stress: the workplace.”
“Because massage therapy has been shown to reduce the physiological markers of stress and depression, companies recruiting massage professionals for their workers will have several advantages over those who do not.”
“Some facts highlighting the relationship between work and stress include:
- According to the American Institute of Stress, workplace stress costs the nation more than $300 billion each year in health care, missed work and stress reduction efforts.
- According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, workers who report they are stressed incur health care costs that are 46 percent higher, or $600 more per person, than other employees.”
The Integrative Health Care article goes on to state that there is evidence of decreasing stress when given the option of on-site chair massage.
Many of our corporate chair massage clients look forward to their assigned day for chair massage as it is regularly scheduled each week. Many corporate clients like this “easy button.”
One client emailed me earlier this month this with testimonial:
WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! “Janet, I cannot say enough how great our experience with Corporate Massage Kneads was. The Online Scheduler ran smooth and was very easy to work. Karen was fantastic and I already have people asking when she is coming back.” Corporate client

Chair massage speaks, are you listening?
As I have been practicing more yoga in 2020, I am reminded that my body speaks to me every single day–especially during an hour class of taking yoga. Each movement indicates whether or “knot” it is a preferred stance, pose, and activity.
Daily movement tells the story!
Not only that, my body speaks to me whether I am sitting at my desk, walking outside, or doing common household chores. We move constantly through the day and our body is expected to cooperate 24/7 with each activity regardless of routine or comfort.
The daily “pain” when working at a desk
As many of us work at a desk (at home now) or within a cubicle if called back to work are stationary and sedentary for sometimes hours on end with long projects and/or conference calls. Often clients tell me that a “bad habit” of office workers is that they often tuck one leg under their seat to nestle into the long days of office work. This particular “bad habit” allows for a shift in body weight and posture which has lasting effects on our already strained muscles. All these habits have a cumulative effect on our bodies, minds, and comfort levels.
Often while at the desk, our back muscles tend to be over-stretched while our chest tends to be shortened to accommodate odd positions (for sometimes hours!) at our workstations.
So, I ask – what are you doing to combat less movement each day? Chair yoga is an option along with other activities to decrease stress and increase productivity and mental clarity.
Walking during lunch is another tried and true option to clear the mind and bring on movement and a fresh perspective.
Why chair massage can offer benefit!
Of course, chair massage is (our) preferred option for all the reasons you know and have been stated time and time again within my blogs! A quick session to settle into on-site chair massage will bring pain-relief, stress relief along with some “kneaded” relaxation. Wellness services that include mobile chair massage can bring many benefits!
Corporate Massage Kneads’ client testimonial
One client just sent this review pre-COVID after I worked on her muscles.
A great testimonial for Corporate Massage Kneads’ client about chair massage in Maryland
Worth It! “Janet is very knowledgeable and is not afraid to dig in if you like it! I did 15 minutes this time, and will be doing a 30-minute session every month from now on! I highly recommend it every time as I want to take advantage of this benefit. It was extremely enjoyable and a fantastic way to take a break during the workday!”
Imagine how your body language would change at the end of the day with a little downtime in the office to refresh and rejuvenate vs. singing the same old song!
On-site chair massage works to relieve back and neck pain as well as is stress-relieving and productivity-increasing.

3 MORE reasons to smile after a chair massage

Woman getting a mobile chair massage in the office
Chair massage increases employee productivity. Not only do chair massages help employees be extra alert and focused, but employees also simply give more to organizations that take good care of them. Plus, corporate massage therapy aids in having employees who aren’t distracted by headaches and back pain and anxiety, and can give all their focus to their jobs. One of the greatest benefits of on-site corporate chair massage is that the program improves office morale. Employees appreciate employers who appreciate them. As a therapist for 19 years now, I can attest to the satisfaction and sense of relief following each chair massage.
Maryland’s onsite chair massage company, Corporate Massage Kneads’ client says it best!

In addition to attracting top talent, those same talented employees will stick around when they feel appreciated. After you’ve worked hard to hire and train some new talent in your organization, it’s important to show their value and appreciation to your organization.
Additionally, a chair massage can treat carpal tunnel and tendonitis and prevent repetitive stress injuries. These issues are some of the most common in the workplace and when effectively addressed, the number of Worker’s Compensation claims goes down.
Employees experiencing low back pain that received chair massage spend less on doctor’s visits and prescription medication than those who did not. Plus, some of the most expensive health care conditions are dramatically improved with regular corporate chair massage, thereby reducing your costs as an employer as well.

Overworked muscles “knead” chair massage!
COVID has changed the game in SO MANY ways for the overworked employee. Setting up our home offices can wreak havoc on our overused muscles (while sitting at a desk for 40+ hours per week) and joints negatively affect our life. Chair massage is one answer along with stretching, yoga, and frequent desk breaks.

Soreness and pain restrict your ability to perform simple daily tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, and sleeping. Symptoms may even disappear for a while with rest; however, they inevitably return with more intensity.
Overuse injuries occur to muscles, joints, ligaments, and connective tissue when they are stressed without sufficient time for repair. Time is the key; allowing the body enough time to recover is the most important part of treatment and prevention of overuse injuries. Overuse of muscles and joints is primarily the result of micro-traumatic injuries that wear down the body. Examples of these injuries that slowly break down the body include typing on a keyboard, raking leaves, exercising, prolonged sitting, etc.
Injuries can occur anywhere and at any time, yet are most common in the workplace (typing on a keyboard!!). Overuse injuries can become chronic, resulting in pain and dysfunction that can last for years. When one muscle group is overused, an opposing muscle group becomes underused due to compensation. When this imbalance occurs, the body does not move efficiently. Instead of muscles working together to perform a specified function, they work against each other, causing the body to exert more energy to perform the same task. Now it takes more effort and energy to complete a given task making the body more susceptible to injury.
So what action steps can you take to help you move and feel good again? Corporate chair massage therapy can help!
Soft tissue treatments can reduce muscle spasms and relax the overused muscles. Performing basic massage to the tight muscles is the easiest way to address the issue without getting too complex. Receiving regular massages is a wonderful way to help prevent overuse injuries and pain relief. Not to mention, on-chair massage therapy offers relaxation and is easily accessible for those that can schedule regular office visits!!

Six tips for better health, chair massage is one…
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to fix up the damage caused by the giant meal we all ate this past Thursday. Maybe you scarfed down a little too much pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole and you may feel as though spending the rest of your days in a pair of sweatpants is a solid life plan. While life in elastic pants may sound cushy at first, after further assessing the caloric damage of your binge, the fantasy may fizzle as horror and panic take over. Don’t fret! Most likely, the temporary weight gain and bloat brought on by the holiday will not be permanent. Here are some ways to feel better after the Thanksgiving dinner binge! Chair massage can aid with relaxation upon entering BACK into the office.
First and foremost, forgive yourself. It’s okay to overdo it at Thanksgiving; it’s a holiday centered around a great meal and it’s only natural to want to stuff your face with all the yummy food you made. So if you’re feeling fat, bloated, and mad at yourself for overdoing it, stop worrying about it! Dwelling on your binge will only make you more upset, which could lead to emotional bouts of overeating down the road. Generally, a big holiday binge will only set you back in your wellness regime for a day or two, so keep going; you’ve still got this.
Drinking water is good for you no matter what, but it is crucial to drink after eating a large meal. Staying hydrated can aid in binge recovery by aiding digestion and fighting gas-induced bloat. Staying hydrated supports healthy metabolism and satiety, making recovery more manageable for the body. Drinking lots of water will help flush out any excess salt that’s making you bloated and paunchy.
Getting seven to nine hours of sleep is one of the best things you can do to get back on track after a binge because it may make it easier to turn down fatty foods the next day. Studies have shown that those who get enough sleep not only take in fewer calories but fewer calories from carbs and fat than their sleep-deprived counterparts.
Exercising after a binge often fuels the guilt and shame about overeating at Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, it’s not realistic or effective to chase every calorie with exercise. Even so, breaking a sweat the day or so after the holiday can help deliver oxygen to the digestive tract which keeps food moving through smoothly and can help people feel better.
There is absolutely no need to put yourself through a full-blown cleanse post-binge, but eating “clean” whole foods will make you feel refreshed and put you back in the right frame of mind to reach your wellness goals. Meals rich in protein, fiber-filled carbs, and fat are ideal.
While you’re thinking about reaching your wellness goals, why not try another form of wellness following COVID?
On-site chair massage is a great way to relieve stress and get your blood flowing after the stressful day of cooking and cleaning for the family as well as the days following getting back into your regime.
