Happy workers & chair massage.

Workers are happier with on-site chair massage!

I recently read the World Happiness Report (who knew?) and found some interesting facts and data.  It seems that many of the top counties consider the following to be important factors: caring, freedom, honesty, generosity, health, etc. When thinking of my days in an office environment, all these rings true for my prior work life and now home life alike. Any kind of massage makes me happy including chair massage.

As the study was comprehensive with 150 countries participating, there seemed to be a common thread for those that did weigh in. The study shows that white-collar workers fared better than blue-collar workers based on the ratings of input throughout the study.  The feeling is that better pay provided for a more positive and enriching work life.

The theory of a more balanced work-life environment rang true throughout the study as every employee works through his/her demands while weighing the impact of their family life.  One detail that was of interest noted that the employee being able to plan out their day lead to a more rewarding work experience.

The recent trend seems to be engaging more with employees to allow for greater flexibility and more welcoming workspaces lately. With COVID, this seems to be the case for many workers doing remote work at home. As the saying goes “Times are a-changin’!” with companies adding more flexibility these days due to the global health crisis.

My question is what will employers offer to get employees BACK into the office? Many wellness programs include yoga, mobile chair massage, scheduled outside walks for all, etc.

Corporate Massage Kneads, my on-site chair massage company based in MD, received this kind of review late last week. Another client was pleased with our on-site chair massage services.

5 stars! Testimonials for chair massage (pre-COVID)

“I had the 10-minute massage for my neck and shoulders in 01JUN2017. She was very kind, listened to my requests, and was professional. She was on time and my neck felt much better afterward. I would recommend it to others. “

With reviews like this one, I will continue to promote mobile chair massages within your office. We make it easy and do all the heavy lifting for this type of program. Leave the details to us!

Chair massage helps with desk posture!

Freeze. Don’t move a muscle. As you read these words, notice the placement of your head – are you leaning into the page or the screen? What about your shoulders – are you hunched over a magazine or electronicchair massage Baltimore device? Do a quick self-assessment: How does your current posture compare with ideal posture?

If you’re like most people, you tilt your head when you read or use a smartphone or other electronic device, when you’re at your desk at work, and pretty much any time you’re examining something closely. The trouble is, smartphone use has dramatically increased the frequency and duration of this activity, particularly among young people.

The human head weighs about 10-12 pounds when in a neutral position: balanced between the shoulders, chin level, and eyes gazing forward, shoulders and shoulder blades retracted. This weight – and the resulting load on the spine – increases dramatically when the head flexes forward.

The long-term consequences of a tilted-head posture are incrementally increased stresses about the cervical spine that could lead to early wear, tear, degeneration, and possibly surgery.

The obvious answer to what some are calling an “epidemic” of poor posture isn’t very practical – people aren’t going to use their phones less. Good posture matters. Pain-related to technology use is often due to poor posture and ergonomics. When you’re sitting in front of your computer with a certain posture for hours on end, your body gets used to being in that position.

Make sure you have the appropriate monitor, desk, and chair height for you. Can’t buy a new desk? Keep your head is in a neutral position with your monitor at eye-level. You want to have the height of the chair so that your feet can rest comfortably on the floor and your knees are at or just below your hips.

Sitting up straight might not come naturally at first. It requires diligence, but more importantly, practice. As with all things, active practice will help solidify proper posture as a habit. One sign you’re not doing it right: If anything in your body feels achy or uncomfortable after prolonged use, it’s your body’s way of screaming at you to change position and find a better one because it’s struggling to make your current posture work.

Bad posture is a common occurrence in office workers. Did you know that on-site massage services can help get your body back on track when it comes to having good posture? It loosens all upper back muscles which aid in pain-relief and some “kneaded” relaxation.

Chair massage speaks, are you listening?

chair massage near me

As I have been practicing more yoga in 2020, I am reminded that my body speaks to me every single day–especially during an hour class of taking yoga.  Each movement indicates whether or “knot” it is a preferred stance, pose, and activity.

Daily movement tells the story!

Not only that, my body speaks to me whether I am sitting at my desk, walking outside, or doing common household chores.  We move constantly through the day and our body is expected to cooperate 24/7 with each activity regardless of routine or comfort.

The daily “pain” when working at a desk

As many of us work at a desk (at home now) or within a cubicle if called back to work are stationary and sedentary for sometimes hours on end with long projects and/or conference calls. Often clients tell me that a “bad habit” of office workers is that they often tuck one leg under their seat to nestle into the long days of office work.  This particular “bad habit” allows for a shift in body weight and posture which has lasting effects on our already strained muscles.  All these habits have a cumulative effect on our bodies, minds, and comfort levels.

Often while at the desk, our back muscles tend to be over-stretched while our chest tends to be shortened to accommodate odd positions (for sometimes hours!) at our workstations.

So, I ask – what are you doing to combat less movement each day? Chair yoga is an option along with other activities to decrease stress and increase productivity and mental clarity.

Walking during lunch is another tried and true option to clear the mind and bring on movement and a fresh perspective.

Why chair massage can offer benefit!

Of course, chair massage is (our) preferred option for all the reasons you know and have been stated time and time again within my blogs! Overworked muscles “knead” chair massage!

COVID has changed the game in SO MANY ways for the overworked employee. Setting up our home offices can wreak havoc on our overused muscles (while sitting at a desk for 40+ hours per week) and joints negatively affect our life. Chair massage is one answer along with stretching, yoga, and frequent desk breaks.

Soreness and pain restrict your ability to perform simple daily tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, and sleeping. Symptoms may even disappear for a while with rest; however, they inevitably return with more intensity.

Overuse injuries occur to muscles, joints, ligaments, and connective tissue when they are stressed without sufficient time for repair. Time is the key; allowing the body enough time to recover is the most important part of treatment and prevention of overuse injuries. Overuse of muscles and joints is primarily the result of micro-traumatic injuries that wear down the body. Examples of these injuries that slowly break down the body include typing on a keyboard, raking leaves, exercising, prolonged sitting, etc.

Injuries can occur anywhere and at any time, yet are most common in the workplace (typing on a keyboard!!). Overuse injuries can become chronic, resulting in pain and dysfunction that can last for years. When one muscle group is overused, an opposing muscle group becomes underused due to compensation. When this imbalance occurs, the body does not move efficiently. Instead of muscles working together to perform a specified function, they work against each other, causing the body to exert more energy to perform the same task. Now it takes more effort and energy to complete a given task making the body more susceptible to injury.

So what action steps can you take to help you move and feel good again? Corporate chair massage therapy can help!

Soft tissue treatments can reduce muscle spasms and relax the overused muscles. Performing basic massage to the tight muscles is the easiest way to address the issue without getting too complex. Receiving regular massages is a wonderful way to help prevent overuse injuries and pain relief. Not to mention, on-chair massage therapy offers relaxation and is easily accessible for those that can schedule regular office visits!!

Six tips for better health, chair massage is one…

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to fix up the damage caused by the giant meal we all ate this past Thursday. Maybe you scarfed down a littlechair massage in maryland too much pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole and you may feel as though spending the rest of your days in a pair of sweatpants is a solid life plan. While life in elastic pants may sound cushy at first, after further assessing the caloric damage of your binge, the fantasy may fizzle as horror and panic take over. Don’t fret! Most likely, the temporary weight gain and bloat brought on by the holiday will not be permanent. Here are some ways to feel better after the Thanksgiving dinner binge! Chair massage can aid with relaxation upon entering BACK into the office.

First and foremost, forgive yourself. It’s okay to overdo it at Thanksgiving; it’s a holiday centered around a great meal and it’s only natural to want to stuff your face with all the yummy food you made. So if you’re feeling fat, bloated, and mad at yourself for overdoing it, stop worrying about it! Dwelling on your binge will only make you more upset, which could lead to emotional bouts of overeating down the road. Generally, a big holiday binge will only set you back in your wellness regime for a day or two, so keep going; you’ve still got this.

Drinking water is good for you no matter what, but it is crucial to drink after eating a large meal. Staying hydrated can aid in binge recovery by aiding digestion and fighting gas-induced bloat. Staying hydrated supports healthy metabolism and satiety, making recovery more manageable for the body. Drinking lots of water will help flush out any excess salt that’s making you bloated and paunchy.

Getting seven to nine hours of sleep is one of the best things you can do to get back on track after a binge because it may make it easier to turn down fatty foods the next day. Studies have shown that those who get enough sleep not only take in fewer calories but fewer calories from carbs and fat than their sleep-deprived counterparts.

Exercising after a binge often fuels the guilt and shame about overeating at Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, it’s not realistic or effective to chase every calorie with exercise. Even so, breaking a sweat the day or so after the holiday can help deliver oxygen to the digestive tract which keeps food moving through smoothly and can help people feel better.

There is absolutely no need to put yourself through a full-blown cleanse post-binge, but eating “clean” whole foods will make you feel refreshed and put you back in the right frame of mind to reach your wellness goals. Meals rich in protein, fiber-filled carbs, and fat are ideal.

While you’re thinking about reaching your wellness goals, why not try another form of wellness following COVID?

On-site chair massage is a great way to relieve stress and get your blood flowing after the stressful day of cooking and cleaning for the family as well as the days following getting back into your regime.
