24 years of offering mobile chair massage!

As of August 23rd, 2025. I celebrate 24 chair massage marylandyears as a graduate of The Atlanta School of Massage! When deciding to leave my lucrative medical sales job, I felt the excitement to choose a trade that used my hands and my business knowledge to offer relaxation and stress relief to my future clients. With the support of my husband, Jim, family, and friends, I jumped into applying to school and prepared for my interview with admissions. Success! In December 2000, I was accepted into the program with a January 2001 start date. The realization that school was full-time and required lots of studying set in. Little did I know that I would open a business offering chair massage in Maryland in 2006!

Deciding to commit to a full-time program of 720 hours of body and schoolwork was one of the best decisions I had made in my career.

Looking back, it was an easy decision as I was always a massage seeker, opting for massage in foreign cities when I traveled for work vs. long corporate-sponsored dinners and drinks. It was healthier and I felt better the next day!

Massage offers flexibility and immediate gratification from clients who seek services, along with a unique understanding of the body and the movement of the muscles.

Since 2001, I have fine-tuned my skills for on-site chair massage as many clients seek this type of bodywork due to limited time and financial resources. My massage career drastically improved when I started Corporate Massage Kneads in October 2006.

The years have rolled by, and I am filled with gratitude to have chosen this massage as my life’s work.  My company, Corporate Massage Kneads, continues to push me to exceed client’s expectations of myself and those who work with me.

Many therapists who work with my company have years of experience and are able to bring stress relief to our clients in a short amount of time when offering mobile chair massage. They are an extension of me and always bring their best work to every on-site corporate chair massage event.

I did some research as I was curious why others like myself chose massage therapy as their profession. The results are interesting as I profile these independent thinkers and workers like me! Many modern-day massage therapists have chosen massage as their second career, as it offers flexibility and a decent hourly rate. This was especially appealing to me when newly married and ready to start a family.

The AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) website indicates that massage therapists are more often female, with a median age of 45.

Interestingly, this same site indicates that massage therapy is a growing industry with $12.1 billion in sales for massage and related massage products. The primary reasons to receive a massage include soreness/stiffness, pain management relief, injury recovery, health and wellness, headache management, and relaxation. This shows promise to therapists who have committed to the trade with an additional cost of a massage school for their chosen second career.

Wellness programs are “in” as the public and large corporations seek on-site chair massage, chair yoga, stretching, and other exercise programs as a cornerstone for increasing productivity, reducing stress, and maintaining health.

With promise, I am hopeful that massage therapy will continue to grow and continue to become more even more mainstream in the future. It has been estimated that 49.4 million Americans (19%) have enjoyed a massage at least once in the last year.

This client testimonial continues to validate the importance of offering on-site corporate chair massage in large and small corporate offices!

“I am so glad our company makes this available on-site. Sitting at a desk 8+ hours a day takes a toll on our muscles, and just 15 minutes with the therapist makes a world of difference. I was hesitant at first about giving up my time in fear of losing valuable production time, but in turn, it has helped my alertness and production many times over. Well worth the investment. Thanks to Janet, she is an angel in disguise! ”

With hope and gratitude, Corporate Massage Kneads asks you to consider selecting us as your chosen chair massage provider.  Corporate Massage Kneads has the experience to help you with all your corporate massage “kneads.”

Corporate chair massage is easy to schedule with employer OR employee-paid programs. Schedule your corporate on-site chair massage program today by simply contacting us!

Chair massage and tips to manage stress

chair massage MarylandWith the ever expanding innovation of technology (cell phones, texting, email, etc.), stress has increased for the average office worker. Long gone are the days of following up the next business day when a fax finally arrives. Both senders of calls and texts usually expect prompt attention and action, which increases the stress and workload for both parties. Many are working longer and longer hours due to increased workload, virtual meetings, etc. An article in today’s paper suggests offering “quiet days,” which allow office employees to prioritize their day without the interruption of Zoom-like conference calls and meetings. Chair massage can easily be incorporated into these days.

Common complaints associated with stress include headaches, backaches, clenched jaw, and trouble sleeping. These physical symptoms are often followed by feelings of anxiety, depression, frustration, etc.

Reactions to this stress from an overworked office employee can include eating too much, not getting enough sleep, and many times trying to juggle too much at once, which can lead to poor results and the inability to complete all of the tasks at hand.

Here are some easy tips to incorporate into your day to help manage and alleviate stress:

I will practice using positive self-talk at least once a day.
I will remember to use emergency stress stoppers when I face stressful situations.
I will spend at least 15 minutes every day finding pleasure in something that I enjoy.
I will practice daily relaxation, such as deep breathing or another relaxation technique.
I will add a new healthy habit to my life this week.

If reading through these has you realizing that you don’t typically engage in these stress relief techniques, then it might give you the nudge you “knead” to try them out and bring more order to daily chaos.

Here are some suggestions to help you jump-start that “happy” and productive feeling of promptly and efficiently completing tasks:

  • Make your task list into a series of today vs. tomorrow priorities
  • Give realistic timelines for the completion of important projects
  • Inquire about on-site corporate chair massage and/or other wellness programs with your HR department.
  • Engage in simple relaxation techniques, like taking a break to leave the office for a short walk in the fresh air
  • Try meditation, Tai Chi, or Yoga regularly, to experience relaxing your body and practicing mindfulness

Corporate Massage Kneads would love to join you in your office offering mobile chair massage service to your staff. Onsite Chair massage in Maryland helps to reduce stress and fatigue while increasing productivity!

Stay connected as a chair massage therapist!

Stay connected as a chair massage therapist!
The value of chair massage has been increasing with a projected 22% increase by 2028! We wanted to share some tips and actions to stay connected with chair massage therapists and clients! Chair massage therapy is often viewed as a popular health benefit in addition to proper diet, exercise, and medical treatment. Massage therapy treatments, especially chair massage, have increased in demand with clients seeking treatment for muscle aches, stress-related mobile chair massage near metension, and for back and neck pain.
The value of therapists has increased by leaps and bounds over the years, with a projected 22% increase by 2028! That brings more evidence that the interest in massage and VALUE of massage therapy are here to stay when we can increase our service offerings.
Here are three ways to stay current and connected following the COVID pandemic.
  1. Sign up for Continuing Education classes. In order to stay current, massage therapists must invest time and energy to learn advanced skills and techniques for their practice.  This shows pride in your work and can set you apart from others in the field. A wide variety of classes and additional training are common, including Thai massage, Reflexology, Sports Massage, etc.
  2. Join social media chat groups in your area, state, and nationwide. Massage therapists are typically kind and generous in spirit having felt called to a healing profession. For this reason, many therapists are online and actively sharing thoughts and ideas now more than ever. Especially since COVID, there are many Facebook groups that are operated by massage therapists to connect with each other. They discuss a wide range of topics, including massage pricing, ethics, new and available CE courses, etc. It’s important to remain flexible and eager to learn in a rapidly changing environment and economy. How are you navigating these uncertain times? What is your plan to move forward for the remainder of 2025?
  3. Increase your overall presence online and in your marketplace. This summer is an excellent time to take a broad view of your business with new ideas to bring clients back in. When was the last time you updated your website and social media platforms? Have you been in touch with your clients either by email or newsletter? Staying in touch provides comfort and assurance for the clients who have supported us through the years, and reminds them of our services when life gets busy. One idea would be to offer health tips that complement your massage therapy practice.
The field of massage therapy continues to evolve just like other service industries. We can all help continue to educate our clients on the value of the services we offer through new techniques, health tips, and outreach through social media.
Use your “downtime” to bring results following summer vacations!
Stay strong and healthy!

Four tips for your muscles! Chair massage can help.

mobile chair massageFor many of us, life has felt increasingly stressful in recent years. I see many people outside enjoying the fresh air to clear their minds of worry and stress. I personally committed myself to walk 5 miles a day, but it led to muscle fatigue and strain. The temptation to ignore it and push through was strong for me, and I know I’m not alone. Ideally, finding a way to keep the momentum of exercising, while also working through muscle fatigue and strain without overdoing it is the best approach. Chair massage can also help ease sore muscles when starting a new exercise routine.

Some of us ignore the pain, and after a bit of “rest”, hop back up and act like their muscle are as good as new. But not having the proper rest and recovery can worsen your injury; it could turn a simple wrong turn into chronic pain, or it could make an injury even more severe and cause permanent damage. Many don’t know what is the correct response to injury from exercise, and are unsure of what they should do next. So, what should you do?

First of all, right after the injury occurs, immediate first aid is important in the acute phase. This can be completed by following the R.I.C.E. formula for recovery:

“R” stands for resting. Resting the affected area significantly depletes the chance of further injury and reduces the strain on the joint in pain. Not only will rest help with the initial sharp pain, but it can also save you weeks to months of further recovery by not stressing the injured muscle more.

“I” stands for ice. Placing ice on the injury slows blood flow to the area, and therefore allows for less swelling and (in cases of open wounds) bleeding. Ice can also help to reduce pain and inflammation.

“C” represents compression. Compression means wrapping the area of injury so that it has extra support. Compressing the damaged area also reduces swelling in the hurt area and holds muscles and joints in their place, which can prevent further injury when in motion.

“E” stands for elevation. Once resting, wrapped, and iced, place the injured area above the level of your heart so that your heart is forced to pump blood upwards. This also reduces blood flow to the damaged area, as well as swelling and inflammation.

Within the last few years, alternative methods of injury recovery have also been suggested, such as the MEAT recovery method.

MEAT stands for:

  • Movement. Gentle movement during recovery encourages blood flow to your injured tissues to promote healing. Let pain be your guide as to how much movement is too much, too soon.
  • Exercise. As you start to heal, you may begin to introduce specific, controlled exercises to help rehabilitate your injury. A physical therapist can show you what to do and how.
  • Analgesia. Analgesics are pain relievers. You may need to continue to use pain relievers during your recovery to allow for enough healthy movement. Follow your healthcare provider’s advice.
  • Therapy. Therapy encompasses the many long-term treatments you may need to fully recover from an injury. Your provider might recommend orthotics, bodywork, or other modalities.

Treat your muscles well and make sure that you handle your injuries with the proper care, which could prevent further damage and ease the pain.

Do you have muscle pain? Do many people in your office suffer from muscle injuries or general tightness? Did you know that a mobile chair massage is an excellent form of treatment for joint inflammation and muscle irritation?

“Happy” is a mobile chair massage!

woman smiling after mobile chair massageThe Summer months tend to fly by, and before we know it the cooler temps of Fall will begin. This forward momentum is refreshing as we cycle through the calendar months and keeping moving towards healthy living in spite of the current environment that we may be struggling with. Don’t let the summer heat get the best of you. Exercise, proper nutrition, and of course, chair massage can help!

Current times are trying both mentally and physically. Now is the time to settle your mind and help yourself navigate current and future challenges. Whenever you have a bad day or week, it is all too easy to get stuck in a cycle of negative emotions. Sadness can be hard to dismiss, and when you are having an off day, it can sometimes feel like the end of the world. Each day offers a fresh new start and new activities that bring joy and meaning to your life.

Here are some good tips to escape negativity, shift your attitude, and turn your day towards a more positive note:

1. Don’t beat yourself up. When you’re feeling down, instead of getting frustrated with your negative emotions and feeling guilty for having a bad day, recognize that everyone has these feelings at times and to give yourself some grace. Accept that every day is not perfect (in fact, most days aren’t), but every day has it’s end, and you can start fresh again the following morning.

2. Buy your favorite meal/snack. Some find and enjoy an occasional treat outside of the house makes for a good pick me up and it’s a “one and done” serving.  Once you’ve accepted that a day isn’t going the way you’d hoped, take action towards making yourself feel better. Do you want French fries? Find the nearest and favorite fast food restaurant. Buy that ice cream that you have been craving for a week. A little treat could make a huge difference and give you a nice boost to get through the rest of the day.

3. Get moving. Work out. Exercise. Endorphins are wonderful, and when you work out and exercise your muscles, these “happy hormones” can significantly improve your mood and state of mind. Sometimes the last thing on earth that sounds appealing is exercise (especially when your day has been less than satisfactory). However, if you can muster the energy and determination, I guarantee that a nice walk, short run, relaxing swim, etc., can leave your body feeling better and your mood much improved.

4. Surround yourself with people that you love. It can be tempting to be alone when you’re in a bad mood, but oftentimes being alone can only make you feel worse. Call up your friend, have a nice phone conversation with your a sibling, or make a visit to see your parents. Company and community can be a great way to get out of a “funk,” so try to avoid secluding yourself and surround yourself with people who love you.

5. Treat yourself! You deserve it. Whether it’s a small vacation, a wonderful meal, a fun activity, a small present to yourself, or scheduling a chair massage, be kind to yourself. You’ll thank yourself later. Remember that everyone has bad days. The best thing that you can do is to accept it, try not to let worry take over, and do small things to make yourself happy.
