mobile chair massageIt’s officially June! This is the month of the year when many students are stressed out. Whether you’re in college and have finals this first week of June, or you’re a night student with a full-time job who is getting ready for your exams, it’s a rough time for everyone. Being a parent of stressed-out students can also be tough, so I’ve come up with a few ideas you may want to incorporate to help relieve some of the daily school stress your household may be experiencing.

Comfort Food

With exams, projects, and finals on the back of their minds constantly, many students forget to eat properly, which can lead to health issues and a lack of sufficient nutrients. The best way to combat a lack of eating or eating too much junk food is to prepare small snacks and meals that are tasty and considered “comfort food,” but also contain important nutrients. Ideal snacks include chips with hummus or guacamole, fruit salad, smoothies, peanut butter and banana pitas, and chicken wraps.

Peanut butter and banana pita wraps were one of my favorite snacks growing up and are fun, tasty, easy to make, and can give you a quick boost of energy and make you less hungry throughout the day. Feel free to jazz it up by adding granola, honey, or blueberries into the mix. Chips with hummus, fresh salsa, or guacamole, can also be good in moderation. For an even healthier snack, consider substituting chips with baby carrots, celery, or cucumber slices to help reduce calorie intake. A small snack like this can go a long way and is also very flavorful.

Sleep Routine

It’s not just about getting enough sleep at night. While that is one very important aspect of being focused and doing well in your studies, it isn’t the only thing that helps promote healthy sleep. It’s easy to forget or ignore health routines when we are feeling stressed. It’s important to take the time for self care – to wash your face, take showers regularly, or even have a warm bath before bed.

Set your students up for success, maybe treating them (or yourself) with a few products like face masks, bath bombs, and lotions to help them relieve stress through self care. Lush sells all-natural, fresh face masks that have active ingredients and essential oils meant to help reduce stress and have the added benefits of being great for your skin.

We know you want to help your student out with whatever they may need, but doing so can also stress you out in the process. Make sure as a parent you put yourself first as well and give yourself time to relax. Productivity on the job can suffer if you focus too much on how your kids are doing. Be there for them if “kneaded”, but be there for yourself too.
