Overworked muscles “knead” chair massage!

COVID has changed the game in SO MANY ways for the overworked employee. Setting up our home offices can wreak havoc on our overused muscles (while sitting at a desk for 40+ hours per week) and joints negatively affect our life. Chair massage is one answer along with stretching, yoga, and frequent desk breaks.

Soreness and pain restrict your ability to perform simple daily tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, and sleeping. Symptoms may even disappear for a while with rest; however, they inevitably return with more intensity.

Overuse injuries occur to muscles, joints, ligaments, and connective tissue when they are stressed without sufficient time for repair. Time is the key; allowing the body enough time to recover is the most important part of treatment and prevention of overuse injuries. Overuse of muscles and joints is primarily the result of micro-traumatic injuries that wear down the body. Examples of these injuries that slowly break down the body include typing on a keyboard, raking leaves, exercising, prolonged sitting, etc.

Injuries can occur anywhere and at any time, yet are most common in the workplace (typing on a keyboard!!). Overuse injuries can become chronic, resulting in pain and dysfunction that can last for years. When one muscle group is overused, an opposing muscle group becomes underused due to compensation. When this imbalance occurs, the body does not move efficiently. Instead of muscles working together to perform a specified function, they work against each other, causing the body to exert more energy to perform the same task. Now it takes more effort and energy to complete a given task making the body more susceptible to injury.

So what action steps can you take to help you move and feel good again? Corporate chair massage therapy can help!

Soft tissue treatments can reduce muscle spasms and relax the overused muscles. Performing basic massage to the tight muscles is the easiest way to address the issue without getting too complex. Receiving regular massages is a wonderful way to help prevent overuse injuries and pain relief. Not to mention, on-chair massage therapy offers relaxation and is easily accessible for those that can schedule regular office visits!!

Six tips for better health, chair massage is one…

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to fix up the damage caused by the giant meal we all ate this past Thursday. Maybe you scarfed down a littlechair massage in maryland too much pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole and you may feel as though spending the rest of your days in a pair of sweatpants is a solid life plan. While life in elastic pants may sound cushy at first, after further assessing the caloric damage of your binge, the fantasy may fizzle as horror and panic take over. Don’t fret! Most likely, the temporary weight gain and bloat brought on by the holiday will not be permanent. Here are some ways to feel better after the Thanksgiving dinner binge! Chair massage can aid with relaxation upon entering BACK into the office.

First and foremost, forgive yourself. It’s okay to overdo it at Thanksgiving; it’s a holiday centered around a great meal and it’s only natural to want to stuff your face with all the yummy food you made. So if you’re feeling fat, bloated, and mad at yourself for overdoing it, stop worrying about it! Dwelling on your binge will only make you more upset, which could lead to emotional bouts of overeating down the road. Generally, a big holiday binge will only set you back in your wellness regime for a day or two, so keep going; you’ve still got this.

Drinking water is good for you no matter what, but it is crucial to drink after eating a large meal. Staying hydrated can aid in binge recovery by aiding digestion and fighting gas-induced bloat. Staying hydrated supports healthy metabolism and satiety, making recovery more manageable for the body. Drinking lots of water will help flush out any excess salt that’s making you bloated and paunchy.

Getting seven to nine hours of sleep is one of the best things you can do to get back on track after a binge because it may make it easier to turn down fatty foods the next day. Studies have shown that those who get enough sleep not only take in fewer calories but fewer calories from carbs and fat than their sleep-deprived counterparts.

Exercising after a binge often fuels the guilt and shame about overeating at Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, it’s not realistic or effective to chase every calorie with exercise. Even so, breaking a sweat the day or so after the holiday can help deliver oxygen to the digestive tract which keeps food moving through smoothly and can help people feel better.

There is absolutely no need to put yourself through a full-blown cleanse post-binge, but eating “clean” whole foods will make you feel refreshed and put you back in the right frame of mind to reach your wellness goals. Meals rich in protein, fiber-filled carbs, and fat are ideal.

While you’re thinking about reaching your wellness goals, why not try another form of wellness following COVID?

On-site chair massage is a great way to relieve stress and get your blood flowing after the stressful day of cooking and cleaning for the family as well as the days following getting back into your regime.

Five healthy (at home) lunches during COVID

Healthy days include healthy lunches, stretching, and exercise can be an easy and valuable part of your daily routine.  As imagined, COVID has changed the way we eat, work, play, and probably sleep. Enjoying a variety of new and healthy foods for late morning snacks and lunch may be a welcomed change compared to (humdrum) coffee and donuts when employees were back in the corporate office.

Here is a list of quick ideas that may grab the attention of those that work in your office! Summertime offers the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables which make healthy and quick lunches easier to plan.

Five Quick Lunch Ideas!

Don’t spend your money on fast food at lunch. Enjoy a quick wrap instead and find that healthy eating does not have to be bland or boring!

  1. Any type of bagged salad with a few extras makes for a tasty lunch. Many enjoy nuts, berries, and other treats to increase flavor and nutrients. Pack the spinach separately and add it when it’s time to eat!
  2. It is easy to make a big batch of chili when you have some time and it will stay good all week. Enjoy a cup for lunch each day! If you won’t eat it all in that time frame, freeze half of it for a meal at a later date.
  3. Grain bowls are always a hit for better health and help to minimize the leftovers from dinner the night before!
  4. Hummus is a versatile ingredient for not only favor but also as a protein or a condiment!
  5. Wraps are easy and quick to prepare with protein(s), assorted greens, and maybe a little hot sauce to bring it up a notch.

When safe for all, other on-site wellness programs can include healthy lunch choices, corporate on-site chair massage, and daily activities such as walking or (chair) yoga for employees.

Celebrating 14 years of offering chair massage!

Monday morning is sometimes slow to get re-oriented with the pending “To Do” list along with attending to the email inbox. I was wishing for a chair massage myself! Thus, it was a slow start to the day (with coffee in hand) as I dug into the inbox to sort through the priorities for the coming week. chair massage in Baltimore

I was pleasantly surprised to get a reminder that 14 years ago this month, I started my business, Corporate Massage Kneads, offering mobile chair massage in Maryland. My mood picked up as I remembered that today was significant.  It goes with the saying that time flies when you are having fun!

In 2006, Corporate Massage Kneads was a new company offering corporate chair in Maryland. Back in 2006, Maryland companies were just thinking about offering wellness programs to enhance and support employee health and experience in the office. Since then, Corporate Massage Kneads has expanded to many states along the eastern seaboard and as far and wide as the great state of Texas.

Just for a kick, I looked back at what was off topic ten years ago today and found these little gems.

  • Bob Barker and the “Price is Right”
  • Mariah Carey, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Black Eyed Peas each captured three nominations for the American Music Awards.
  • Steve Irwin, the “Crocodile Hunter”, dies

Looking back at those little facts from 2006 makes me realize how long ago THAT really was and how far Massage Kneads has come in the world of wellness while offering on-site chair massages.

The years have rolled by and I am filled with gratitude to have chosen this massage as my life’s work.  My company, Corporate Massage Kneads, continues to push me to exceed the client’s expectations of me and others that work with me. Wellness programs are “in” now as the public, large and small corporations seek corporate chair massage, chair yoga, stretching, and exercise as a cornerstone for increasing productivity while decreasing stress.

I feel that Corporate Massage Kneads continued to exceed the expectations of every massage client working in corporate offices. With the current COVID concerns, we continue to hope for a quick resolution in order to “get back to work” and offer mobile chair massage when employees once again return to their corporate offices.

Exceptional
“Once again, I cannot express enough what a benefit such a service such as this one by Corporate Massage Kneads, truly means to a healthy, and productive day. I have gained many benefits from the service that I gave my co-worker a session. Now they too agree… Wonderful and a real bargain for the convenience and quality of service. ”

With hope and gratitude, Corporate Massage Kneads asks that your company consider selecting us as your chosen chair massage provider WHEN safe for all to return back to the office.  We have the experience to help you with all your corporate “kneads.”

Three lessons learned from chair massage in Maryland!

chair massage Maryland

Employees who take advantage of wellness are more productive.

Nineteen years of offering corporate chair massage in Maryland have flown by! The advantages of offering an on-site chair massage include ease of scheduling, marketing with easy payment options an online scheduler. This wellness program can be offered in a small space, too!

Here are some lessons that I have learned along the way.

  1. Chair massage offers great results in a short amount of time.

Many clients who seek on-site chair massage have one or two key areas that “knead” immediate attention. When first working with new clients, I ask for areas that require the most attention to maximize the result for the designated session. Setting aside fifteen or thirty minutes regularly (weekly or monthly) can make the difference between an “ok” day vs. an energized day full of productivity following the chair massage.

  1. The cost of chair massage is minimal vs. the desired and often obtained results.

Chair massage can bring a sense of well-being, refreshed energy, and focus on those ongoing projects that tend to linger when tired. The cost of corporate massage is reasonably priced to allow clients to schedule regularly or when the “knead” arises.

  1. One chair massage session will aid in healing vs. not at all.

Clients often ask me this question. “How often should I come in to get a chair massage?” I answer as much as your budget and schedule will allow for. From my experience, curbing expenses in some areas (convenience coffee and eating out) can cover the expense of a regularly scheduled chair massage. The commitment to regularly scheduling chair massages can improve both your mental and physical state with very little investment on your part.

Offering corporate chair massages in Maryland within the office cuts down on additional time spent scheduling and driving to a massage appointment following an often long day at the office.

Corporate Massage Kneads received this client review a while back! It echoes our thoughts about offering corporate on-site chair massages.

“Awesome experience. Would love to book again. Having this done on my lunch hour is so convenient.  Please come back!”

Corporate Massage Kneads asks that you consider selecting us as your chosen chair massage provider, as we have experienced therapists and the business expertise to assist your company with all your corporate “kneads.”

Tips to reduce posture problems + chair massage

With COVID, so many things have changed! We all know this and probably feel this when working more hours in our makeshift home offices. As I am not actively working now offering chair massage in corporate offices, I find my body aches a little more from sitting!

Here are some ergonomic tips to reduce the stress and strain on your body. Sitting happens so changing our daily practices and posture can help.

  • Take little breaks more often Little breaks throughout the day add up by the end of each day and week. Set your phone to include mini-breaks in the morning, at lunch, and mid-afternoon.
  • Increase your cardio With increased sitting the effects are much worse if not balanced with some sort of cardio activities. Compounded with closed gyms and more work at home, it takes effort and commitment to keep your body moving. With the warmer summer temps, maybe stroll outside for 15 minutes per day OR take the stairs in an office building OR change the habit from taking the elevator to steps. Probably a better idea anyway during these COVID days.
  • Change your posture While at work, sit straight up in your chair with your feet flat on the floor. While relaxing and watching tv, lean back while stretching your legs and neck to a forward position. While in the car, scoot your seat up closer to the wheel and sit upright with your chin slightly down. All these MINOR adjustments can have MAJOR advantages when experiencing less back and neck strain.

Corporate Massage Kneads welcomes the day when we can all safely go back to work and enjoy coffee talk with long lost office mates, large office spaces, AND onsite chair massage.
