As a busy corporate massage therapist working in various corporate offices, I often see and personally experience the wide range of office temperatures around this time of year. Many workers have sweaters and long layers on while others have short sleeves and open-toed shoes. The range for comfort is vast when it comes to temperatures in today’s corporate office.

The Struggle is Real

As you may know (and experience in your own house), women often feel the temperatures differently than men. Some office workers confess to sneaking the temps up or down at their leisure leaving others to guess why the vast range for comfort.

What can be done to get the temperature just right? Here are a few suggestions which may work to avoid office drama!

  • Cooler drinks or warmer drinks ready and on hand
  • Layering clothes at work if the cold is a concern
  • More breaks and walks outside for those that desire warmer temps
  • Small desktop fans for those are the warmer side

The ideal setting for office temps

“According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), Year-round settings of 68°F for heating and 78°F for cooling provide the most savings. To achieve a good balance between controlling your business energy budget and comfort use year-round, set the thermostat to 70°F for heating and 76°F for cooling.”
